Description

Poster with a woodblock print of woman having a cocktail at a bar in the Japanese Jazz-age.

Shin-hanga was a Japanese art moving during the Taisho and Showa periods. The artists revisited old techniques and gave them a modern twist like in this poster, where the woman is not as modest as you would usually see in nostalgic Japanese art.

The artist, Kobayakawa Kiyoshi, was best known for designing woodblock prints and studied with Kaburagi Kiyokata, a famous painter and print designer of the time.
