Poster with a painting of water lilies from the garden of Claude Monet in Giverny.
Claude Monet spent over 30 years painting the water lilies that grew in a pond in his garden in Giverny; a small village north of Paris.
His earlier water lily paintings were more accurate and descriptive of the subject. Later in life he would focus more on the light and the reflections of the plants and the sky in the water.
This painting is a late piece, where reflections and realism blend into each other in a colorful dance. He worked on the painting over several years, painting and repainting the flowers and their reflections. The original title of the painting was “Agapanthus” but these flowers are only present as a faint reminiscence in the final piece.
